Mama Kin :: In The City
Leon Music
By The Atomic Chaser
I heard some good things about this band, so I decided to drop their manager an e-mail. About a week later, the band's debut release, 'In The City, had arrived. Sure enough, my hunch was right, Mama Kin rocks. The band's name taken from the Aerosmith song, just in case you were wondering. Mama Kin is fueled and powered by Ward on vocals and guitars, Elias on guitar, Jon on bass and Edwin on drums. Mama Kin is essentially putting a modern spin on the wild & crazy Motley Crue/Kiss style of party rock from the 80's. The album is full of upbeat, infectious rock anthems that the band's energy and obvious enthusiasm make very hard to resist. Just repeat to yourself "it's OK to rock, it's OK to rock"! Mama Kin come with their sleeves rolled up and ready to rock! Songs that are loaded with sing-a-long choruses, cool melodies and rock solid guitar work. They are catchy but they also have a very radio-fitting texture. On that count one has to acknowledge the band's ability to produce a record that is authentic hard rock while also being totally compatible with the mainstream. Highlights include songs like guitar charged movers "In the City", "Mrs Operator", "Superman" and "Higher and Higher" have surprisingly down to earth lyrical themes that you will most likely find yourself singing along to. Bottom line, this is a rock solid debut album for a band that has what it takes to be a big time band this day in age, because they are creative and enjoyable. If you've been missing the kind of pure fun rock & roll that's been so hard to find these past fifteen years, you've got to check out Mama Kin. You'll be cranking it up and singing along before you know it.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
