It Bites :: Tall Ships
Progrock Records
By The Atomic Chaser
Like many other It Bites-fans, I wasn't particularly interested in the band without Francis Donnery, no matter how good they were anyway. Well, I can tell you this, the band's latest release, 'Tall Ships' is amazing. It is a minor miracle. When the music is this good, it will grab your attention. Never a dull moment. As much as I love Francis Donnery's work with the band. Now John Mitchell (Kino) takes the reigns of this prog-pop band that's been around forever. John Mitchell's vocal work on this album is so delectable... very Peter Gabriel-esque... but so much control... he's really getting to be a better singer each time he steps in the booth. Anyway, of course his guitar playing is ridiculously good throughout... but let’s talk about the songs. THE TALL SHIPS is the best prog-pop album to hit my ears in years. Among many friends and fans opinion is divided between 'awesome' and 'crap'! I think, in my opinion , this is a great album . It isn't without some minor faults and I think the lack of Francis Donnery being involved shows, and is the main divide. Still, with that said, It Bites in the new formation is without fear of contradiction the best prog rock band in the world today. So really in conclusion I would say that if you are a fan, you'll have this already , but listen to some samples first ? But thats what the prog fans like me love in this music, divided maybe, but still fans of REAL music. No filler here from start to finish, all the songs are solid. Less pop and a lot more prog rock.Give 'Tall Ships' a try. You will be surprised in the most pleasant of ways.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
