Chrome Division’s first release, “Doomsday Rock ‘n Roll” was one of those cds that seemed to be an invite to an after party--meaning the party you came to was a hell of a ride and then you found out it was going to continue later on… sometimes though the follow up bash is a bit of a buzz kill. Ergo when in January of this year, Chrome Division announced they had finished recording their second album the assumption was the debut would mean a great sequel. Booze, Broads and Beelzebub was released on July 18, 2008, with the band claiming it is "a much better sounding album than the first one”.
Great expectations. Less than complete execution.
After pushing and pulling through to Track 5, it’s already evident that Booze, Broads and Beelzebub (BBB) misses the bulls eye, where Doomsday Rock N Roll was spot on. Word has it that the cd was recorded in 7 days so perhaps the reason why BBB seems like it was phoned in is that well- it was. The cd feels rushed, unpolished, and thrown together.
Technically- the current lineup Eddie Guz – vocals (also of The Carburetors), Ricky Black – lead guitar, Shagrath – rhythm guitar(also of Dimmu Borgir), Björn Luna – bass guitar (also of Ashes to Ashes) and Tony White – drums are all capable and accomplished - but at the end of the 12 tracks- Booze, Broads and Beelzebulb doesn’t drive the “riff” home.
