Fire In The Hole! Introducing UK Rockers Heaven's Basement
Interview
By The Atomic Chaser & The Rocker
"We're the band that will make you fall in love with Rock 'N' Roll all over again" - Richie Hevanz , Heaven's Basement
Born from the five corners of the UK with one sole ambition between them; to reach the summit of their potential and to be regarded alongside the bands that inspired them. Heaven's Basement are about evolution, growth and reaching new heights. Defiance, risk taking, and self-challenge are their hallmarks.
Heaven's Basement drummer, Chris Rivers contacted The Rocker and I and wanted to know if would check out their music videos. The Rocker and I have been fans of these lads when they were called Hurricane Party, then as Roadstar. So, we did not hesitate in wanting to see what they look and sound like as Heaven's Basement.
First off, a formal introduction to the band, On vocals, Richie Hevanz, who grew up in a sleepy town in South Wales, UK. Looking for a way out, he discovered a profound friendship in rock n' roll, specifically the messages with which the singers delivered to him with such relating venom. Guitarist, Sid Glover, otherwise known as 'Kid Fingers' or 'The Mouth' is the youngest member of Heaven's Basement. Jonny Rocker on guitars and backing vocals, the third member of the rhythm section of Heaven's Basement and with a 'grab it by the horns' attitude towards life has the ability to liven up any dull night. Drummer Chris Rivers, born and bred in Heaven's Basement's own Manchester, UK. His devotion to the drum came after discovering Van Halen at a young age. Already on a diet of Genesis, The Eagles and Pink Floyd through his mother, it was watching and listening to his father’s hard rock drumming style which drew him to likes of Aerosmith, Motley Crue and later on, Guns n' Roses. Last but not least, bassist, Rob Randell, or Rob, Bobby or the dancer as he's sometimes known was born in the eighties in the town of Romford, Essex. Legend has it that Rob was born with a bass in his right hand and an instruction manual entitled 'How to play the bass' in his left.
The videos we watched were for the tracks, "Executioner's Day" and "Saint Routine". Saying that we were ROCKED! Would be put it lightly. Talk about throwing a lit match in gasoline, holy smokes! Heaven's Basement are the real deal and this is what the guys shared with us.
AAM: Where were the videos shot?
HEAVEN'S BASEMENT: The vids were shot in Terminal studios in London. We'd hired it out for a week and managed to get a film crew down.
AAM: When can we expect the debut release from Heaven's Basement?
HB: As soon as possible. Once we've sorted all the business side out, labels, agents all that jazz then I think we'll get in the studio and get it done. We're building a great catalogue of songs so it'll definite kick ass when it appears. Just have to be a little patient.
AAM: Aside from the songs on your Myspace page, how many songs have you written so far?
HB: We're constantly writing really, so I'm not sure. I think we're on about forty. It’s what we do so it never really stops.
AAM: Are what we see on the video, any indication of what fans can expect to see and hear at a Heaven's Basement show?
HB: Definitely. That's the point. If anything the live experience is better. Being on stage is where we love to be. But we love the crowd interaction too. You can watch a video and get an idea of the energy a band plays with but you can't beat standing in a crowd among the noise and the sweat to really know what their about! If you like the vids you'll love us live!
AAM: What are your goals as a band?
HB: Conquer all! I think we'd like to be the biggest band to ever walk the face of the earth really. It’s not too much to ask is it!
Heaven's Basement is a band that knows, respects and acknowledges their influences, from AC/DC and Zeppelin, but doesn't attempt to copy them. Instead they pick up where these groups left off and carry on the tradition of great sounding rock and roll with an edge! Heaven's Basement is exactly what rock music needs right now. The Rocker and I along with THE DRP would like to thank Heaven's Basement for sharing their time with us. All we can say is BRING IT ON! Great chat mates! Cheers!
