What The Media Is Saying About Tricia Freeman & Her New CD Everyone Can See “Everyone Can See”

Reflects all the paths Tricia has explored…”Thought You Was The One” is a funky blues number in the vein of Little Feat and Bonnie Raitt…”Time To Call A Friend” showcases Freeman’s vocal talents as well as her imaginative writing skills.” BMANS BLUES REPORT “You put this CD in a player, and lo and behold, you instantly have to be impressed…this voice jumps out from the speakers, and it has so much sass, so much grit, so much personality, that you instantly have to be sold. That’s how I felt when I first heard the voice of Tricia Freeman.” MUSIC NEWS NASHVILLE

“One thing is readily apparent when you put this album on. This woman can sing. Her raspy vocals in “Thought You Was The One” not only remind me of Janis Joplin, but also are perfect for the blues she sings. Everyone Can See is an album you should add to your collection.” OC MUSIC EXAMINER

<Tricia Freeman Live In Concert At House Of Blues/Hollywood – Sat., May 12> (HOLLYWOOD, CA) – Check out one of the hardest-working ladies in the Southern California live music scene, Tricia Freeman, when she comes to the House of Blues, Crossroads Room, 8430 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, Saturday, May 12. 8-11 p.m. Free. Info: (323) 848-5100 or http://www.houseofblues.com/venues/clubvenues/losangeles/. The talented vocalist blends elements of rock, blues, country, and even soul in her repertoire, while gigging on average of five-six times a week with the Tricia Freeman Band. Freeman’s distinct gravelly-edged vocals have been favorably compared with both Bonnie Tyler and Bonnie Raitt. She is nominated for a 2012 Los Angeles Music Award in the “Best Blues/Americana/Roots” category and will be performing at the Real Blues Festival Of Orange County 3 later this Summer. Freeman has just released the well-received, independently-produced album, Everyone Can See. From the ballad-like “Blind Man Wandering” and Little Feat-esque rock ‘n’ funk feel of “Thought You Was the One” to the uptempo boogie-woogie urgency of “Mama He Treats Your Daughter Mean” and the sexy jazz feel of the title track, the twelve-song record encompasses a myriad of sounds sure to satisfy. Listen closely and you’ll hear strains of The Motel’s Martha Davis in the lovely “Going Back” and Heart’s Ann Wilson in the equally serene “Let It Go” – both not bad company to be in, to be sure! Check out a great interview with Tricia in the latest issue of All Access Magazine here – http://allaccessmagazine.com/2012/01/26/tricia-freeman/ Tricia Freeman – Bio

Raised in Kansas and Texas, Tricia’s earliest memories of music go back to her mother’s love of jazz and blues, flooding the house with the likes of Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and her favorite, Dinah Washington. Her father loved it all, from the Latin American to classical. As she started developing her own taste in music, she began to lean more to the local country/bluegrass sound mixed with a rockin’ blues flavor that was prevalent in her college town of Lawrence, Kansas. Tricia made the big move to California at the age of 19 and immediately bought a guitar and a “how to” chord book. The rest just came naturally, from singing those country / blues songs at the local saloons, to performing in the stage production of “Godspell”, to performing at all sizes of venues, from local taverns to major festivals up & down the coast. Freeman has toured Europe from Finland to Germany several times, with different line ups, performing songs from her own CD’s and a blend of cover tunes that she makes completely her own with her bold original sound, that can only come from living the songs she sings. Her studio work has brought her performance credits in 3 movies from Disney, Time Warner and Indigo Films. She also appeared on the television show, “Your Big Break”, paying tribute to Janis Joplin. Tricia traveled to Memphis several times to sing back up vocals on 2 CD’s of Walter Trout, the amazing blues guitarist from “Canned Heat”. While there, she had the honor of working with producer, Jim Gains, of Santana fame, as well as, many other bands. Besides Walter Trout, Tricia has also shared the stage with the likes of Spencer Davis, The Little River Band, Olivia Newton John, Missing Persons, Eric Burdon and The Animals, Eddie Money and in 2007, she opened for Al Green & John Fogerty at the Doheny Blues Festival in Dana Point, California. Freeman has a bold, humorous stage presence that will have you rolling with laughter between songs. This is why being compared to Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstad, and Melissa Etheridge, among others, has been “trumped” with other fan’s and critic’s opinions that she is much more like the multi-talented Bette Midler. Indeed, Ms. Freeman has that “Midler” appeal. This singer/songwriter puts on a great show, no matter what size the venue or the audience. You will always get the “real thing” with Tricia Freeman. Tricia Freeman Review CDs, Interviews, And Shows Passes Available.
March 23, 2012
John Paul Jones Arena
Charlottesville, VA

On an unusually hot March afternoon fans lined up to see what was promising to be one hell of a show featuring Lauren Alaina, Luke Bryan, and Jason Aldean. The audience that was later revealed to be a record breaking, sold out crowd of over 14,000 people, definitely was not disappointed.

The evening began with an opening set by Lauren Alaina. She started her show with her hit single from her debut “Wildflower” album, “Georgia Peaches” followed up by a song she says is a “song to your ex-boyfriend” called “I’m Not One of Them”. She greeted the crowd by introducing herself, “Hi, I’m Lauren Alaina”, “I was on American Idol and I got 2nd place but whatever, I’m on tour with Jason Aldean and that’s just as cool”. She continues with another single off the album called “Tupelo” and asks the crowd (that was still filing in) to “make some noise for Jason Aldean – if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be here so I’m super blessed” She finished her set with the title track “She’s a Wildflower” and “One of Those Boys”.

I was excited to see her live. I confess I voted for her on American Idol which was the first season I had actually watched the whole thing and had actually voted. I think this little lady can sing her hind parts off and she is doing a great job with her live performance. I just hope she stays true to herself and doesn’t fall prey to industry pressure to look a certain way, act a certain way, and sing a certain way. I believe she has a bright future ahead of her and I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.

Next up was Luke Bryan. Thunder and lightning accompanied by strobes signaled the growing crowd that the show was about to start and Luke Bryan was taking the stage. He opens the show with one of his #1 singles, “Rain is a Good Thing” from the “Doin’ My Thing” album. He comes front and center and asks, “Where are the country girls at? Let me see ya’” and of course all the ladies (which make up the majority of the crowd) scream. He follows that up with “Country Man” and he’s dancing all over the place, rocking out. Next song was “Someone Else Calling You Baby”. He says “Virginia, how ya’ll doin?”, “Charlottesville, how ya’ll doin?”, “Let me see all my country girls”. When the girls scream, he says “Hey”, “Whatchall doin?”, and then he meows as the audience. He asks “Ya’ll got back roads right?” He flows into the next song “Drunk on You” and the crowd is singing along with him. The next song was “Drinkin’ Beer & Wastin’ Bullets”. He finishes it up and tells the crowd “I’m a little hung-over, I went and did a little trout fishin’ today, sweat my ass off, drank too much beer so”, of course the crowd loved that and responded with a rousing “hell yeah”. Next up is “If You Ain’t Here To Party” during which he tosses his red solo cup in the air towards the crowd. Guess who was in the line of fire? You guessed it, I looked up and all I could think was “crap” and next thing I knew me and a few other people were treated to a shower. Thank God it was only water and I had a second to tuck in my notebook. They bring a piano on stage and he tells everyone he sucks at playing piano and one of the stage hands brings him another cup and he takes a sip and says “ah that’s better” and he easily plays a little diddie. Then he decided to mess with the audience and starts playing Adele’s “Someone Like You”, they take the piano away and he makes sure he gets his cup from off of it before they take it off stage. Next song was “Do I” and that was followed up by “All My Friends Say”, in the middle of which he breaks into Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” then he finishes it up. Last songs were “I Don’t Want This Night To End” and “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)”, during which he gets the girls in the crowd to shake it and then he points one guy out and puts the spot on him and the guy starts “shaking it” and Bryan tells him “That’s my dawg right there”. He proceeds to inform the male portion of the crowd that they are “outnumbered 8 to 1 here tonight and if you don’t go home with a girl, well then, you’re just ugly and I can’t do nothin’ for ya’”.

Luke Bryan has some great country songs. His ballads make you wanna grab your date and dance a close, slow dance and the rest of his songs make you wanna hoop and holler, grab a beer, and bait a hook. They take you back to childhood and bring back memories (some not too innocent) of your younger, wilder days. He’s funny as hell and is one heck of a performer. I can’t tell you how many times I myself laughed out loud at his dancing and joking around. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him and would definitely see him again.

Final set and the one everyone was waiting for was Mr. Jason Aldean. He took the stage to “Hillbilly Deluxe” by Brooks & Dunn and then asked the audience, “Virginia, whatcha got?”. First up was “Johnny Cash” and “Big Green Tractor”. Already, nobody is sitting down and the noise level of the crowd has grown. Next up was “Amarillo Sky” and “Why”. He addressed the crowd after that by saying “What’s up Charlottesville?”, “It’s good to be back in Virginia”. He’s all over the stage back and forth making sure everyone in the place gets a good view and picture opportunity. With every place he stops you see numerous cell phones raise up all the sudden from people trying to get pictures. He sings “Crazytown” next and then lets the audience know that he has a new album coming out at the end of the year. Next was his newest single “Fly Over States” and then he disappears from the stage and next thing I know, he’s at the back of the arena at the soundboard. He tells the crowd that he knows “being in the back sucks” and he “wanted to make sure that everyone had a good seat”. He’s joined next by Luke Bryan and he tells everyone that they are gonna pay tribute to their idols. He says they both grew up pretty close to each other in Georgia, played some of the same clubs, listened to the same music. They both perform “Amarillo By Mornin’” by the great George Strait, Shenandoah’s “Sunday In The South”, and “Dixie Land Delight” by Alabama. Luke Bryan tells the crowd “Virginia, you are killin’ it tonight”, “I had gone to the bus and started drinkin’ beer”, “Gimme one more – as if I don’t need any more”. Jason let the crowd know that they were informed that they were the biggest crowd at a show at the John Paul Jones Arena – that they actually broke an attendance record. Luke Bryan sang his song “We Rode In Trucks”. He left the soundboard stage and Jason went back to the front stage and performed “Tattoos On this Town” & “Relentless”. The next song, which as of my writing this review won Jason Aldean two ACM awards for Vocal Event of the Year and Single Record of the Year, was the huge hit ballad “Don’t You Wanna Stay” which was originally recorded and performed with Kelly Clarkson but tonight Lauren Alaina filled in and did a fantastic job of it in my opinion. Next up was the title song from his double platinum album “My Kinda Party” and finished with another huge hit “She’s Country”. He left the stage and the crowd began stomping their feet and screaming for more. Jason took the stage once again with two more of his hugely popular songs, “Dirt Road Anthem” and after telling them to “Crank that bitch up” he completed the night with “Hicktown”.

Jason Aldean has become one of my favorite country artists. I was very excited to see this show and I was not disappointed for one minute. There’s something different at a country music concert, don’t get me wrong, I’m still a rock girl deep inside too, but the crowds are different, almost friendlier and relaxed. Oh they get up on their feet and raise hell, NEVER doubt that, and they know how to do it as well as the next person. You see couples slow dancing with each other during the slow songs and next thing you know they are rockin it out with the rest of the crowd. His music relates to everyone. You have the songs that remind you of your hometown and your country, the songs that remind you of family and friends, the songs that bring to mind the one you love, and the songs that make you want to party and raise hell. The tour is one of the highly anticipated tours of the season, people are being told to buy their tickets very early if they want to go because they are selling out and they may miss out. This was a fantastic night; I had the opportunity to see 3 country music artists that I had been anxious to see live. Lauren Alaina is the sweet southern belle with the voice that just pours over you like honey, she’s new to the industry and yes you can tell but she’s got a huge future ahead of her. Luke Bryan is the funniest guy I have seen live and I am a fan of him and quite a lot of his songs. He’s had a huge year this year and I don’t think he has gotten the recognition he deserves for that. Jason Aldean, LOVE his music, let me get that out there. He has caught fire in the country music world but like Luke Bryan, I don’t think he has gotten the recognition that he deserves, from the industry anyway, the fans are damn sure giving him the much deserved recognition and that is proven time after time by the huge crowds that are going to stadiums and arenas to see these guys on tour. I can’t wait for the new album to come out, I know it’s gonna be as good as the others and will become part of my collection.

Like Christmas morning, I can’t wait for the last Saturday in April to get here. It’s opening day for trout fishing in the Sierras!

The Skys

“Colours of the Desert”
www.theskys.com
Style (Indie / Psychedelic)

If your bucket list includes a tripped out psychedelic zombie apocalypse Tarantino / Peter Weir ‘esq experience out at Burning Man smoking hash from a hookah with other wayward desert transients seeking enlightenment and bath salts than I guess this is for you. From my personal freelance photography experiences, having this CD playing while I’m out at the Salton Sea would make for an interesting sound track. But if I’m in a bar and this band starts playing these songs I’m leaving to get a chili cheese dog from Pinks. In a nutshell, the listening enjoyment for this band’s latest CD is all about finding the right listening environment.

Rating 2 ½ (trippy to say the least but I’m not discounting it)

Jimmy Nash

“The Road to 33”
www.jimmynash.com
Style (Singer Songwriter)

A couple things strike me with this CD and not in a good way. For starters I’m put off by Nash’s musical prowess, which languishes torpidly limp and non-descript. His acoustic guitar playing, vocals, and overall song writing are about as interesting as a Wonder Bread wish sandwich. Singer songwriting style, which is how I would categorize this CD, is a spot light style that highlights the positives and negatives, but I really want to know where the emotion, the passion, and the conviction are. If this is 100% effort I’d really hate to hear what phoning it in sounds like. Thankfully there were only nine songs to endure. As for that ninth song, I’m not a fan of the old Bread song “Make It With You,” but after hearing Nash’s version I hate this song even more. Outstanding decision to end the CD with this dreadful remake.

Rating 1

The Mobbs!

“It’s the Mobbs!!”
www.themobbs.co.uk
Style (Punk / Rock)

There’s a lot to be said for a band that can bang out music that’s charismatic, has a great sense of humor and style, sounds like they’re having fun playing music, and makes having a pint in the pub with live music a fun experience. Aside from digging the overall production, what I really like about this trio’s sound is the fullness within each instrument. Each musician’s ability and style stands out uniquely and they bring it all together wonderfully. I’m looking forward to checking out the band’s two previous releases to hear how they progressed to this point.

Rating 3 ½

Supercuts, one of the nation’s largest hair salon chains, has selected award-winning Country-Pop recording artist Eileen Carey as one of their newly-named “Rock The Cut” Artist Ambassadors. As a “Rock The Cut” Artist Ambassador, Carey gets to share up-to-the-minute news, tour dates, and music with both her current fans and new ones via Supercut’s vast worldwide Social Media Network. Log onto Eileen Carey’s Supercuts Rock The Cut page here and download her song “Faith” for free. Carey will make a special appearance at the 4th Annual Summer Fest concert in Venice Beach this July and the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach in August, as well as releasing the follow-up album to her critically-acclaimed “Movin’ On.

“ What The Press Is Saying About Eileen Carey And Her CD “Movin’ On:

“Eileen Carey’s voice is a droplet of honey dangling from a hive: glistening, all natural, and inviting…but don’t be fooled by the coating because the woman beneath is strong, confident, and just a little bit sassy! Lyrically Carey is smart, to the point, and colorful. Potent lines such as ‘Your lips have lost their poetry’ from the title track deliver her message with absolute focused precision and flair. Eileen has something to say and she says it dynamically. An upbeat, empowering twirling dance that relishes life in the moment and celebrates the wonder, joy and excitement of what comes next.”

SONGWRITERS MONTHLY “Upbeat, easy on the ears, blue skies and country sunshine – that’s the sounds of Eileen Carey!! I must admit – although I’m from Texas – I somewhat tend to favor rock and pop music over country music. But I also must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to several of Eileen Carey’s songs when I received them. They got my attention and kept my attention throughout each of the songs. The bright acoustics, clever lyrics and crystal clear sounds of Eileen Carey may just be the type of country music I could really become a BIG fan of. Send me more Eileen!!”

SONGWRITERS WEBCAST The bi-coastal Carey blends a winning combination of smart, from-the-heart lyrics with a radio-friendly blend of Pop and Country. One of those songs, the playful, upbeat “Out With the Girls,” won “Dance Single of the Year” at the 2010 Los Angeles Music Awards and was successfully remade into a country/dance song to accompany a nationwide dance club promotion

It was 2007 that kicked started the musical career of Ohio metallers Miss May I with that they went on to get signed to Rise Records releasing two full-lengths having their song “Forgive and Forget” being featured on the Saw VI Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is what really pushed them to the fore front of the music scene. But with that they went on to do an extensive amount of tours and of course write and record for what would be their upcoming third full-length release titled “At Heart”. Frontman vocalist Levi Benton spoke to me to discuss the band’s upcoming release the band’s all new logo and symbol that will represent them from here on out along with more hidden surprises you will only find out right here, right now.

All Access Magazine (AAM) So it looks like Miss May I has a lot of NEW things coming up, a new album, new logo, and new symbol, can you tell me about all of this?

Levi: We wanted a new logo because we thought it was about that time to have an official one because we were going to have one change with each album but we wanted something that would last forever. The symbol represents who we are and it’s always been the lion come with us and with this new symbol it has 5 points and 7 little teeth because we got together in 2007 so it’s cool that a lot have people have been catching on and tattooing it really cool.

AAM How has the band’s sound evolved from Monument to At Heart?

Levi: It’s a lot more real and passion behind it because that’s why we went with calling it At Heart and we wanted people to be able to relate to it because everything about it comes from us and our hearts.

AAM. What inspired the album title? Is it a concept album?

Levi: Well it’s not really a concept I don’t know we named it At Heart because its stuff we never really wanted to sing about because we thought it was too deep, but we wanted the stuff to be real and from the heart on this album; whether it’s a messed up song or not its stuff that really happened and came from our hearts.

AAM You worked with producer Machine what was that experience like?

Levi: Oh it was awesome he pushed us really hard to be a better band and we became a better band and he’s all about live stuff and he’s all about emotion and makes sure the listener can feel and relate.

AAM How would you say that the writing process has differed in the lyrical department on this release?

Levi: It was our first time we got to do pre-production so we got to sit down and write the CD and listen to it and be able to change things and see if this worked or this was dumb so we never got to do this before so Machine knew all about pre-production so we went with it.

AAM. What about the album artwork and track-listing is there a date set for when those will be revealed?

Levi: The album artwork will be released tomorrow so when you see it it’s us speaking from the heart and us being from a kid to a grown-up is just coming from the heart.

AAM. What are your expectations for the CD?

Levi: Hoping it’s a good album from front to back it’s the first album that I’m really proud of all the other CDs and songs I wasn’t really excited about, but this CD I’m really excited about front to back hoping that it’s a good album through and through for kids so that’s my biggest expectation.

AAM. Will there be pre-orders available for this album?

Levi: Yes not sure when but it will be soon.

AAM. When can we expect the first single to be released?

Levi: In a couple of weeks and comes with a video too so a lot of little surprises going on.

AAM. You guys are currently on tour with Whitechapel and After The Burial then next month you’re going to Europe and then returning to the states in May, you guys are just going to be all over the place aren’t you?

Levi: Yeah we’re always on tour, we haven’t done Japan yet but I heard we’re going there this summer, with South East Asia and all of that so rocking that this summer.

AAM Have you been road testing any of the new material? If so, how have audiences reacted to the new material?

Levi: Yeah we’ve been playing our first single called “Hey Mister”on the new tour and it’s actually pretty crazy because usually with the new songs the kids would just listen but they’re really getting crazier with the new material that they don’t even know the words to yet but I’m excited for them to hear it when it’s finished.

AAM What else can we expect from you guys in 2012?

Levi: Actually in a few days we got a big announcement and got plans this summer and new record and touring non-stop so should be good. We got new management so we get to be the metal band we’ve always wanted to be.

AAM. Anything else you’d like to say or promote?

Levi: Our biggest slogan is “Stay Metal” that’s my biggest one.

Nektar is one of those important bands that found success during the classic progressive rock period of the 70’s then lost some ground once the decade ended. Roy Albrighton is the band’s longtime leader, vocalist, and lead guitar player. He has gone through various incarnations with the band.

Cleopatra has reissued two albums and one EP from the Nektar catalog, Man In The Moon (1980) / Evolution (2004) and the bonus EP Always (2005). Perhaps these releases have been overlooked due to all of the classic releases during the 70s. The two CD’s come housed in trifold cardboard case with the magnificent artwork of both albums on the cover, pictures of both bands on the inside, and a nice write up in a booklet.

Roye Albrighton, Allan “Taff” Freeman, and Ron Howden reunited with recently enlisted bassist Randy Dembo and put out the excellent Evolution in 2004 which was most certainly a return to the form the band enjoyed at the very height their success when they released a string of outstanding recordings in the 70s. Man In The Moon is an entirely different story.

Man In The Moon’s lineup was Roye Albrighton (Guitar, Lead Vocals, Background Vocals), Allan “Taff” Freeman (Keyboards), David Prater (Drums, Background Vocals), and Carmine Rojas (Bass, Keyboards). If anything what was accomplished with these two releases is the fact that it presented two different versions of the band and consequently two different sounds and styles. One of the things that really kept Man In The Moon sounding like Nektar is Roye’s trademark vocals. He does an admirable job within a decidedly commercial sounding recording in comparison to any other release.

Make no mistake this is Nektar, just different people and sounds surrounding the main man. The Nektar faithful would be on two sides of the fence with this release. The ardent collector would have a copy and the old school progheads would not consider it a true Nektar release. It is not a bad album, it’s good, just not great like you would expect from this exceptional band. “Too Young To Die” is a fine opening track and “Far Away” sounds like it could have been a hit single. The rest of the album is adequate but not something that really gets under your skin and keeps your attention for a sustained amount of time. There are some moments where the guitar runs will get your attention like on “Torraine.” There is also a bonus track added to sweeten the sour taste you may have had in your mouth titled “Straight Jacket.”

Evolution is return to form and quickly makes you forget about that somewhat unwelcome change you just heard. I do not want to trash Man In The Moon, as I said it was not a bad album it just did not give you much to hang onto and reason to revisit. Evolution was perfect timing after the band’s back catalog had been remastered and released again after a 20 year absence. This proved once again that Nektar were the quintessential prog rockers and it has carried them with plenty of momentum and excitement to present day.

“Camouflage To White” kicks starts the proceedings in typical classic Nektar fashion followed by the thought provoking and beautiful ” Old Mother Earth,” which has its high points that rock, reaching crescendos of sounds and atmospheres appropriately dedicated to our life sustaining planet. Roye peels off some magnificent licks on the track and it is a full bodied composition that really shows off the talents of all the band members. That is the one factor that makes this band what they are. Granted Roye is the core of the Nektar planet however where would he be without the other members? It is special kind of magic they make on this recording. “Child of Mine” is emotive and colorful and definitely one of the best tracks on the album. After soaking up the beauty and innocence of a child you then are brought back to a classic Nektar rocker called “Phazed By The Storm.” The lead vocals and harmonizing is excellent and the music driving this piece is spectacular.

Nektar has not lost their touch, they still can stimulate with their music, make you think and reflect with their lyrics, and take you to places that only great bands can. The transitions, colors and textures of their music are what make them so unique and one of my favorite prog rock bands. I realize it has been a few years since a new studio release has arrived however if you watch any of their DVDs or video footage featuring live performances you will see that they still know how to turn it on and bring an audience to prog rock nirvana.

If you think about the title, Evolution, it is quite appropriate as the band and its individual members do evolve and coalesce to make a powerful statement on the album. Prog on Nektar!
