Motörhead’s Mikkey Dee…a “Celebrity”!
Velvet Revolver’s Matt Sorum “fills” in

For a couple of weeks during Motörhead’s upcoming U.S. headlining tour, the band’s long-time basher of skins, drummer Mikkey Dee, will be filming season one of Kändisdjungeln, Sweden’s version of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Of Here!  where ten celebrities live together in the Malaysian jungle for 16 days. They are being watched by cameras 24/7 and the viewers will decide which celebrity will have to take on crazy and challenging contests. The contests will consist of everything from facing scary bugs to frightening heights. If the celebrities can overcome their phobias and fears, they can bring back food or other needed things to the jungle camp. Finally, the viewers will decide which celebrity will be the winner.

“I can’t wait to see that,” chuckles Lemmy to Canada’s Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. “He’s in the Malaysian jungle, and he doesn’t like bugs. And I think they have to be parachuted into the f**king thing - and he doesn’t like heights either. So it’s definitely going to be worth watching.” Mikkey had agreed to do the TV show before the tour was booked.  Says Lemmy, “I think he’s already had the f**king shots, the anti-tropical disease shots.”

But the tour will go on.

Velvet Revolver drummer, Matt Sorum, got the call from Lemmy and will fill in during Mikkey’s absence.  Formerly of Guns N’ Roses and The Cult, Matt is a world-class musician. He and Lemmy have been friends since they toured together when Motörhead performed some dates with GN’R and Metallica years ago.  Matt will come out to a few of the early tour dates to “watch Mikkey and get the idea,” says Lem. “He’ll be alright, he’s a professional.”

Opening for Motörhead on this tour are The Reverend Horton Heat, “the biggest, baddest, grittiest, greasiest, greatest rocker that ever piled his hair up and pounded the drinks down” says the website; and Nashville Pussy, who have celebrated their brand of genuine rock ‘n roll for more than a decade, in classic style at times, surprising at others, but always earthy, raw and unadulterated.

In other Motörhead news:
- One concert on the tour takes place at the Roseland in New York City on the unusual date of 09-09-09, where they’re offering a special limited promotion of some $5 tickets.  Get ‘em while you can!
- Rob Zombie’s just released Halloween II Soundtrack features a classic Motörhead cut, “The Chase Is Better Than The Catch.”
- A Moscow fan completely covered the hood of his car with the band’s name and infamous logo.  It’s not pretty, but he loves it.
- And a Los Angeles bar recently hosted a derby car race. One of the vehicles, designed by the doorman, features the Lemmy doll (warts and all) among other Motörhead insignia. It won for best design and even played music!
