The Super Bowl Half Time Show has been home to many memorable guitar moments, and Super Bowl XLVI will be no exception. Phillip Jarrell of Jarrell Guitars announced at the 2012 NAMM Show the first live performance of the revolutionary new Monte Pittman Signature Jarrell MPS guitar during Super Bowl KLVI Halftime Show on Sunday, February 5th, courtesy of Monte Pittman, Grammy Award winning artist Madonna’s guitarist for the past ten years. NAMM Show 2012 attendees had the first opportunity to get ‘hands on, up close and personal’ with the instrument, experiencing its unique vibe.

Pittman and his Signature Jarrell guitar join an extraordinary group of guitarists who have performed at Super Bowl Half Time Shows, including Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash who stole the show from The Black Eyed Peas and Usher in 2011, Bruce Springsteen, who showed viewers that he was still “The Boss” with a crowd pleasing around the body guitar spin in 2009, and Prince, whose 2007 guitar solo was played behind a transparent sheet and held in a way that left critics deeming it “Phallic.” In 2006, Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones banged it out with a boldness that was touted as a “raw, dirty, guitar sound, and in 2002, The Edge joined U2 and Bono in 2002 for a hypnotic guitar solo on “Where The Streets Have No Name.”

The Monte Pittman Signature Jarrell MPS is the result of the collaboration between the award winning visionary designer Phillip Jarrell and world renowned artist, writer, and guitarist Monte Pittman. Pittman plays so many different styles of music during any given performance that, until now, he required many different types of guitars to accommodate his needs. Utilizing Pittman’s feedback, Jarrell Guitars worked with MJ at the Seymour Duncan Shop to transform the finest MPS guitar at the time into something completely new – the most versatile instrument ever made. The Monte Pittman Signature Jarrell MPS boasts a mega set of Seymour Duncan pickups with a P-Rail neck, STk-S7 Vintage Hot Stack middle and a custom design SH-13 Dime Bucker Bridge. Both neck and bridge have 3 position mini switches, with custom wiring using a Super 5 way switch, and a kill switch. All together it seems Monte Pittman and Jarrell Guitars are hell bent on rocking the world – the sound of which is none other than simply amazing.

Jarrell Guitars was named “2010 Manufacturer of the Year” at the Music Industries Association of Canada (MIAC) Show in Canada, and has received accolades from PremierGuitar.com.

View Cover

Already dubbed the New British Invasion after just one week of live performances in Los Angeles, the Black Country’s ISOLATED ATOMS are poised to spread their dark eighties drama worldwide. The boys from the UK have been compared to The Cult, Muse and Interpol by industry insiders. Shortly after their first single ‘Tell Me What I Want’ (pps-music.co.uk) debuted and played on indie stations across the pond, DJ Paul Ripman (Radio Manchester) declared the track ‘Single of the Year’.

With their Joy Division-esque vibe ISOLATED ATOMS began their invasion of America at the Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood.

They followed up immediately with another successful show supporting The Tubes at Redondo Beach’s The Brixton. Vocalist Grant Leon Ashman, guitarist Mark Neat, keyboardist and bassist David Davies, and drummer Yang are not only easy on the eyes, but write incredible songs. Known in the UK for their unique and electrifying live performances Ashman has earned the reputation of a cross between legendary front man Jim Morrison and movie monster Hannibal Lecter. “I think a lot when I’m on stage; I get into a different space and worlds up there,” he explains. “Plus I get off on just staring at people making myself feel quite intense. I love the audience’s reactions,” he laughs.

Adding star power aura, the band recorded ‘Tell Me What I Want’ at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool. “The Studio had loads of history and character,” explains Ashman. Not only did Coldplay write many of their hits there, Echo & the Bunnymen and Oasis also used the studio.

Discovered by manager Steve Burrows of PPS Music Ltd. two years ago while the band was performing in a local bar in their hometown of West Midlands, England, Neat refers to Burrows as a 5th band member. “He liked what he saw and ever since then he has been the driving force behind the band.” Then he adds, “He is just as important as any one of us.”

Davies labels their sound ‘Dark and Danceable’ influenced by Dark 80’s Drama. “We started listening to music together and discovered we all grew up liking Depeche Mode and other great 80’s bands like The Cult,” he says, “and our sound developed as we went along.” “We also tend to describe our music as English Black Country Electric Rock,” adds Yang. The band has been influenced by everyone from New Order, INXS and Bauhaus to Gary Numan and David Bowie to Radiohead, The Prodigy and Massive Attack… and Johnny Cash!

The success of their first single piqued the interest of Peter Hook (of Joy Division and New Order fame) so much so that Atoms collaborated with Hook for their next track ‘Play’. The group followed that with the haunting ‘Here We Go’, which sounds much like where Joy Division would have picked up if not for the passing of lead singer Ian Curtis.

Their latest single, the power ballad ‘How I’ve Tried’ is romantically delicious prompting Davies to comment, “We want to do music that sounds really sexy, you know what I mean?” with a mischievous grin. ISOLATED ATOMS tracks are available on Spotify (in the UK), iTunes and www.isolatedatoms.com .

Between live shows during their short visit to the City of Angels the boys also made time to appear on “Focus in The Mix with Denise Ames” TV Show (available to watch at www.FocusintheMixwithDeniseAmes.com, Past Episodes page on the ‘Best of Missing Persons’ episode) and viewers seem to want more:

Lynsey Robinson: “What a great interview, loved it, go Isolated Atoms! British Sex Rock!”

Nicola Chesterton: “Thought the interview with the Isolated Atoms was fabulous.”

Alli Fox Lin: “I just watched the episode about the English band Isolated Atoms. They are pretty awesome!! Are they playing in LA anytime again soon?! “

Yes to the latter comment. The band’s management is currently planning more live shows in So Cal this September, including more on the Sunset Strip. Tour dates will be posted on their websites: www.IsolatedAtoms.com, www.Facebook.com/IsolatedAtoms , www.Myspace.com/IsolatedAtoms and www.Twitter.com/IsolatedAtoms

ISOLATED ATOMS knows that if they want to accomplish their ultimate goals, they need to conquer L.A., then the rest of the U.S. While Davies keeps it local: “We want to play the Hollywood Bowl”, Ashman sets the stakes much higher: “We want the stadiums!” while Yang admits, “We want to be a band with massive appeal like U2.”

The Second Single and Video from The Lonely God

Keeping to the schedule of shooting a video for a new song every two months, Society 1 releases “Scream Out Your Breath” in just under sixty days after debuting the band’s first new single and video (“I Got You”) in five years. The video, directed and edited by lead vocalist Lord Zane, is a varied departure from the hectic, and at times psychedelic, initial offering. The band wanted to a take different approach to each song, making them an extension to the music. And this video is an example of Zane expressing his desire for a dear friend that passed away in recent years.

“I had a very close and important friend named Missy pass away a few years ago. The circumstances surrounding her at the time of death were always extremely upsetting to me, although I understand the reasoning for me not being asked to be by her side in the final moments. There is nothing I wouldn’t have done to hold her hand and be with her as she passed” said Zane.

“This video is an expression of my love for her, and if it was possible I would have carried her as far as I could into the next life. Everything in the video has a meaning such as this. Some things may seem a little out of place but it is my way of showing respect and keeping her in my heart.”

“Scream Out Your Breath” is available in iTunes.

The video can be viewed below:

Chicago’s A Beautiful Nightmare is nothing but a nightmare. They take their inspiration from a heavy dark presents making the best out of it with their intense live shows and intense musical content. Whatever the case may be, A Beautiful Nightmare has already released their first EP “Somewhere Between Never and Forever” and are in top secret mode as far as we’re concerned. Little word has been said in regards to record label talk and full-length news but the good news is that all will be revealed soon enough.

All Access Magazine (AAM) What’s the driving force behind A Beautiful Nightmare?

Bryan: We would have to say our music and our live show are the most important aspects and then how we stay connected with all of our fans on a consistent basis is another.

AAM: How and when did your band hook up and how did you come up with the name A Beautiful Nightmare?

Bryan: A Beautiful Nightmare was first started 6 years ago and now is a completely different band with Michael our singer being the only “original” member. The name A Beautiful Nightmare was actually an idea of one of the other “original” members and it stuck with Michael and them so they ran with it. Michael actually owns the copyright to the name A Beautiful Nightmare.

AAM: How long have you all known each other and how did you meet?

Bryan: Bryan (our guitarist) had actually played shows in different bands with A Beautiful Nightmare a few years before he ended up joining the newest form of ABN about a year ago. Zero (Alex, our bass player) and Michael actually met at some parties a few years back before Zero joined the band. Jordan (our drummer) we actually met through the classifieds section on MySpace and he ended up coming out for a weekend on a train from Utah (where he is originally from) last summer to try out and play a show with us and after that he was in the band and moved out here to Chicago!

AAM: Have there been any changes since you first started your band or changes you would like to make now or in the future?

Bryan: There have been SO many changes in this band since it first started 6 years ago, and even since when I joined the band just a year ago (Bryan is the one typing most of this). As far as changes we would like to make, we are just going to keep pushing ourselves as musicians and songwriters to keep trying to improve our live performance and our music.

AAM: Who writes the music for your band?

Bryan: The actual “musical” aspect of that is written is done for the most part by Bryan and Jordan. We all collaborate for ideas on the songs and how we want them to sound and what we want them to portray though. Lyrically it is practically a collaborative effort as well. We all sit down and figure out what we want the song to be about, and sometimes Michael ends up writing all of the lyrics to the song and Bryan actually wrote the lyrics for two songs on our full length.

AAM: You guys are from Chicago, which pizzeria would you say is the best Chicago has to offer?

Bryan: We love Lou Malnattis.

AAM: Somewhere Between Never and Forever is the title of your debut EP. Why did you choose to go with using this title? What does it symbolize?

Bryan: This title could have many different interpretations and usually we would like our listeners to sort of come up with their own. For one thing though, we have always been interested in the ideas of opposites interacting with one another, hence never and forever. One clue as to why we came up with it: think of receiving some sort of answer within this sort of time frame…

AAM: The style you went with is described as an intense, heavy, dark, yet fun sound in comparison to other bands out there. Why did you want to go in this direction with A Beautiful Nightmare?

Bryan: When we wrote our EP Somewhere Between Never and Forever we wanted our sound to be a mix of heaviness and a poppier melodic aspect that would have something for any type of listener to enjoy but also of aspects of what we ourselves enjoy to listen to (what would be the point if we didn’t, right?). With our new CD our sound has taken a significantly more serious tone than any of our previous work but we talk more about that later in this interview.

AAM: What to you is a beautiful nightmare?

Bryan: The name represents the idea of opposites, of paradoxes.

AAM: Right now the band is holding auditions to find a permanent second guitar player. Have you had any luck?

Bryan: As of right now we haven’t had much luck but we have a guitar player that plays live for us. Unfortunately he can’t be in the band full time though.

AAM: How about record labels you are currently seeking to sign with a label. Have you had anyone approach with you any offers?

Bryan: TOP SECRET INFO! Haha

AAM: You just finished recording your first full-length album, which you say on your Facebook page it will be available shortly. How short is the wait, really?

Bryan: The wait is going to be related to some of that top secret information. BUT! We are going to be posting a teaser on our Facebook, and we will be and have been playing these new songs live. And on top of that we have been playing songs previewing the CD over Stickam for people.

AAM: How does it compare to your EP? Would you say that it’s totally different 100% or is within the same boundaries?

Bryan: Compared to our last EP it is much more mature, much heavier, much more technical, and much more “epic” sounding in its melodic aspect. We essentially took everything we have wanted to do with our music and took it over the top on this effort. We are really proud with the music we have created on this CD. It is a mix of super heavy music and an emotive aspect that not many bands have been able to pull off effectively.

AAM: When it came down to it, who did you work with on this record? What is the title of the album and what is the lyrical content based on?

Bryan: We worked on this CD with producer Don Debiase, and also the producer/engineer from our last EP Jeremy Stimpert that work through Studio D productions in Cleveland, Ohio. The title of the album isn’t decided yet. The lyrical content is basically just different things that all of us or certain members of the band have wanted to express.

AAM: What have been your major influences?

Bryan: We all have our own influences and they are pretty diverse from one another so this would pretty much take up a few pages, hahaha.

AAM: What does you tour schedule currently look like?

Bryan: Right now we are set to be doing a two week tour from the Midwest, to the West Coast, and back in July. If any other opportunities we come along for touring over the summer we will surely let everyone know. There are also some weekend warrior type runs that are in the works right now.

AAM: Of all the bands you’ve played with who did you enjoy the most?

Bryan: That is WAY too hard to answer as there have been many bands we have had a blast playing with but one of the best experiences we all shared in the band was playing the Chicago date of the Thrash and Burn Tour last summer at the Metro.

AAM: Is there anything you’d like to get off your chest?

Bryan: For the most part a lot of what we have wanted to get off of our chests has been written lyrically in the songs of our full length. So be on the lookout for it sometime this year!

This new Aussie artist from Brisbane, Australia is a whole lot more than just a pretty face. His ability to write and perform music goes so far beyond your average artist – it’s like its music from a future era. His music connects best to girls of any age, being female myself I wasn’t the only one left asking for more. The tracks will pick you up; yet leaves you feeling sexy and energised.

The first track “Etc” has a nice pick-me-up buzz then it slowly spins into a love fantasy. The track that stood out the most would have to be track 3 “Teasin’” – Time to add a new song into your “getting in the mood” playlist. This is the new make out song that every girl should have in her naughty draw next to her vibrator! This song will make you want to light some candles, turn out the lights and give yourself a bubble bath. Relaxing and arousing – simply amazing! Followed by “Sea Wide Freedom” this song is what you would expect to be the theme song of your favourite surf movie – the type that makes you want to quit your day job, learn guitar, and become a beach bum.

Over all very empowering. It injects energy into your body; buzzes you up, yet makes you feel relaxed, leaving you to reminisce about all your girly fantasies. The album can make any women quiver like he is standing in the room right next to you.

You can’t help but feel the amazing vibe of this upcoming music genius. Get your copy at “davidottomusic.com”

The band’s latest album, This Is Only The Beginning, welds earth-shattering vocals, gnashing guitar, pummeling bass, and maniacal drums to fabricate a record brimming with pulse-pounding scorchers. With standout tracks like “Step Into The Ring,” look for Atomic Fate to be a major part in the metal landscape for years to come. Keep it Metal… Very Metal ! ! !
