The High Desert Music Festival uniquely blends the very best in live music (Pop, Blues, Rock, Old School, R&B) with the nation’s top BBQ Pit Masters as they compete for thousands of dollars in cash, prizes, and, more importantly, national bragging rights. The region’s top BBQers will attempt to dethrone 2013 champion Wild Willy’s Smokin’ Hot BBQ, in a highly-anticipated competition sanctioned by the prestigious Kansas City BBQ Society. The Cook-Off features competitions in four mouth-watering categories: Beef Brisket, Pork Ribs, Chicken, and Pork. One team will also be named champion of the event, and festival-goers can cast their vote towards the “People’s Choice” Award. Those interested in learning the art of judging BBQ contests will have a rare opportunity to enroll in a Certified BBQ Judging Class. The class is one of only two courses held in California and sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society.
This year’s diverse and high-powered music lineup includes performances by Little Willie G, the original voice of famed Chicano rock group Thee Midniters; SoCal blues-rock guitar goddess, Laurie Morvan Band; a Tribute to Motown featuring vocal quintet, The 5 Tempting Men; The Three Diamonds; Grammy-nominated blues guitarist, Ray Brooks; Billboard EDM chart-topper, Destenee; the 60 Grit Blues Band; plus local crowd favorites, The Tuba Force, The Doug Phillips Band, Tessie & The Calico Cats, The Blue Henrys, and The Latin Express. There’s also young teen singing sensation Vee Nelson and a special awards tribute to music greats who will appear in person.
